Air

Tuxtla’s gleaming Aeropuerto Internacional Ángel Albino Corzo (TGZ, tel. 961/615-0537) is located 35 kilometers (21 miles) east of town. Airlines serving it include: Aviacsa (Av. Central Pte. 160, tel. 961/611-2000, toll-free Mex. tel. 800/006-2200, www.aviacsa.com); Click Mexicana (Blvd. Belisario Domínguez 1748, tel. 961/612-5771, toll-free Mex. tel. 800/112-5425, www.mexicana.com); Interjet (Plaza Veranda, Blvd. Belisario Domínguez 1748, tel. 961/121-5725, toll-free Mex. tel. 800/011-2345, www.interjet.com.mx); and Mexicana (Blvd. Belisario Domínguez 1748, tel. 961/612-5771, toll-free Mex. tel. 800/502-2000, www.mexicana.com).

To get to the airport, ADO offers twice daily service from the first-class bus terminal (US$7, 50 mins, 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.). Closer to the center, Monarch Travel Agency (tel. 961/600-0236, cell tel. 044-961/132-8191, 4a Calle Pte. Nte. 145) operates an airport shuttle with departures scheduled at 5:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 6 p.m. (US$9 pp, minimum two people, reservations required).

A taxi to the airport costs US$17 (45 mins), and the same to return. There is no return bus service from the airport to Tuxtla, strangely enough.

Bus

Tuxtla’s first-class bus terminal (5a Av. Nte. Pte. at Blvd. Antonio Pariente Algarín, tel. 961/125-1580) opened in 2007 and is newer than the airport, with all levels of ADO and OCC service, plus a minimart, luggage storage, and HSBC cash machine. It’s connected to the Plaza del Sol Tuxtla mall, which has a large food court, even a bowling alley and movie theater, in case you’ve got a long wait.

Colectivos to Chiapa de Corzo (US$0.90, 30 mins) leave every 10–15 minutes 5 a.m.–10 p.m. daily from 1 Avenida Sur Poniente at 4 Calle Oriente Sur.

Car

Most rental car companies here (and elsewhere in Chiapas) require you to purchase expensive supplemental insurance, even if your credit card offers it for free. One exception is Europcar (TGZ airport, tel. 961/153-6098, www.europcar.com, or downtown at Blvd. Belisario Domínguez 2075, tel. 961/121-4922, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. daily), which has base rates as low as US$9/day and only requires third-party coverage (US$10/day).

Other options include Budget (at airport and at Blvd. Belisario Domínguez 2510, tel. 961/615-0672) and Hertz (at airport and Hotel Camino Real, Blvd. Belisario Domínguez 1195, tel. 961/615-5348).
