With a capacity for 500 skiers, Hotel Portillo hosts weeklong packages only, starting at US$1,200 per person in low season, rising as high as US$4,750 per person in peak season; prices include four meals daily, but not taxes (nonresidents are exempt from the 18 percent IVA). Perks include a cinema, day-care facilities, gymnasium, game rooms, a discotheque, and live music; extras include a ski school, sauna and massage, Internet access, and a beauty salon. It overlooks the spectacular Laguna del Inca, a cobalt blue alpine lake.

For budget travelers, Portillo’s Inca Lodge and Octagon Lodge offer ski weeks, with bunk-style accommodations starting around US$490 to US$760 per person; both have four bunks to a room, but the latter offers private rather than communal baths.

For nonguests, lift tickets cost around US$34–45 daily, depending on the date; the highest rates correspond to weekends and the period from mid-July to mid-August. For US$5 more, the hotel restaurant (which has superb views of Laguna del Inca) provides a midday meal. Moderately priced accommodation is also available in the city of Los Andes, below the snow line, 69 kilometers west.

There are now efforts to promote Portillo as a year-round destination; in summer, the resort rents chalet accommodations for US$52/82 single/double, with breakfast. The main hotel, though, is closed except for large groups.
