The Museo Interactivo Mirador (Sebastopol 90, tel. 02/2943955, www.mim.cl, Metro Mirador Azul) is open 9:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m. daily except Monday, when it closes at 1:30 p.m. Admission costs US$5.50 for adults, US$4 for children.

South of Peñalolén, in the comuna of La Granja, the Museo Interactivo Mirador is a visual and tactile environment, where everything is meant to be touched and manipulated—it’s primarily for kids, though many adults enjoy it as well. With little textual explanation, it relies on seeing and doing.

It’s good not only in the physical sciences, including water and its properties, and plate tectonics, but also in the psychology of perception. The building itself is a two-story concrete block with an open floor plan and curved lath ceilings where, unfortunately, pigeons have taken up residence. One unique exhibit lets you choose your daily diet as in a cafeteria line and then provides nutritional information on the menu chosen.
