El Calafate has varied accommodations at high standards in every category, ranging from camping to five-star comfort. Its growing number of custom-built hostels, with stylish architecture, often including high ceilings, engaging common areas with stunning views, and even restaurants and bars, are far better than the dingy no-frills reputation that the word sometimes implies.
Occupancy rates are at an all-time high, and places that once stayed open January and February only now stay open all year. Unless otherwise indicated, prices gievn here are for high season, usually October–April, but dates can vary; if business slows down, rates can be negotiable.
Argentine hotels, unlike their Chilean counterparts, do not discount IVA to foreign visitors. Every place in the US$50 and up category includes breakfast, while less expensive places may or may not provide it.
