Trip Ideas
Punta Arenas has a good selection of upscale, mostly modern or modernized hotels, such as the business-oriented Hotel Tierra del Fuego (Av. Colón 716, tel./fax 061/226200, www.puntaarenas.com, US$98/118 s/d).
Punta Arenas’s most distinctively historic accommodations, the
Hotel José Nogueira (Bories 959, tel. 061/248840, www.hotelnogueira.com, US$92/129 s/d) occupies part of the Sara Braun mansion. Its greenhouse bar/restaurant, with its snaking grape arbor, merits a visit even if you can’t afford to stay here.
Hotel Isla Rey Jorge (21 de Mayo 1243, tel. 061/222681, www.islareyjorge.com, US$119/146 s/d) is a favorite with foreign tour groups.
