Built with Mexican aid after the 1960 earthquake, named for the famous muralist, the Teatro Diego Rivera (Quillota 116, tel. 065/261817) is Puerto Montt’s main performing-arts venue for theater, dance, and the occasional film. Upstairs in the same building, named for a prominent Chilean painter of the mid-20th century, the Sala Hardy Wistuba is a gallery with rotating exhibits of painting, sculpture, and photography; it’s open 10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3–7 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. weekends. Admission to exhibitions is free.

Puerto Montt has a smattering of pubs and bars, including the superficially Western-themed OK Corral (Cauquenes 128, tel. 065/266287) and the popular Sherlock (Antonio Varas 452, tel. 065/288888). El Biógrafo (Rancagua 235, tel. 065/344166) features live music, while nearby Bar de la Esquina (Rancagua 245) sometimes showcases live blues.

In the former train station, miraculously transformed into the Mall Costanera, the Cine Mundo (Illapel 10, Local 303, tel. 065/348055) shows current movies.
