Puerto Octay has little out of the ordinary—it’s mostly Chilean standbys such as Restaurant Cabañas (Pedro Montt 713, tel. 064/391450) and Baviera (Germán Wulf 582, tel. 064/391460). The well-regarded parrilla El Fogón de Anita (tel. 064/391455) is about one kilometer north of town on the Osorno highway. Puerto Muñoz Gamero (Muñoz Gamero 107, tel. 064/391485) is a fish and seafood venue in a traditional German colonial house.
One new option is the Rancho Espan-tapájaros (Camino a Frutillar, Km 6, tel. 065/339141), whose specialty is barbecued boar as the centerpiece of a US$15 buffet that includes wine or beer. There’s also a sandwich menu for those who don’t care to gorge themselves.
The restaurant at Hotel Centinela, on the peninsula, is also open to the public, with three-course fixed-price dinners (around US$18 pp).
