Cuba is a world superstar in sports and athletics, as it was even before the Revolution, especially in baseball and boxing. Following the Revolution, professional sports were abolished and the state took over all sports under the Instituto Nacional del Deportivo y Recreo (National Institute for Sport, Physical Education, and Recreation, INDER).
The Cuban calendar is replete with sporting events. Cubadeportes (Calle 20 #706, e/ 7 y 9, Miramar, tel. 07/204-0945, www.cubadeportes.cu) specializes in sports tourism and arranges visits to sporting events and training facilities.
