Gay and Lesbian Travelers
Cuba is schizophrenic when it comes to homosexuality. The situation blows hot and cold and discrimination still exists, despite recent positive strides. (For example, two people of the same gender may now share the same bed in casas particulares, but gay organizations and clubs are illegal.)
Useful resources include the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (915 Middle River Dr. #306, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304, tel. 954/630-1637, www.iglta.org).
Coda Tours (12794 Forest Hill Blvd., Suite 1A, W. Palm Beach, FL 33414, tel. 561/791-9890 or 888/677-2632, www.coda-tours.com) has offered gay tours to Cuba in the past.
Cuba’s Centro Nacional de Educación Sexual (Calle 10 #460, Vedado, Havana, tel. 07/832-5464, www.cenesex.sld.cu) advances gay rights.
