Roxborough State Park is like a little taste of Utah’s red rock country just a short drive from downtown. This is one of my personal favorite places to get the feeling of a mini-vacation and still make it home for supper.
There are very easy trails for hiking with views of the jutting red rocks, and places to enjoy a picnic on an overlook bench. The easier trails such as Fountain Valley Loop are pretty shadeless, so best to arrive early in the day.
Also note that Roxborough is at a slightly higher elevation than the city, rising over 6,000 feet.
