All of these resorts have something in common: Some are more off the grid than others, but all manage to spoil you. These are midpriced to high-priced options. If you are looking for a vacation of comfort but don’t want to be in the mix of mass tourism, these are for you.
The resort Paraíso Caño Hondo (Sabana de la Mar) is set in Parque Nacional Los Haitises, giving nighttime an incredibly serene feeling. Disconnect from busy life and appreciate natural beauty. This is one of the best independent resorts in the nation.
Playa Esmeralda Beach Resort (Guayacanes) is a wonderful pick for a weekend stay. It offers all the things that the big resorts have but on a smaller scale.
Playa Las Galeras has great hotels, but independent Villa Serena steps out from the pack with a pool on the beach and excursion packages.
In El Cibao, the Hotel Gran Jimenoa (Jarabacoa) is an easy choice. Located directly on a river, it offers good food and all-inclusive options in the adventure capital of the country.
If Casa Bonita (Bahoruco) were in a beauty pageant, the rest of the contestants should be really nervous. Infinity pool, independently owned, amazing vistas, good food, elegant Caribbean-modern decor: It all means trouble for the rest of the small resorts. This hotel earns top kudos.
