The deceptively small Lowe Art Museum (1301 Stanford Dr., 305/284-3535, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tues.–Wed. and Fri.–Sat., noon–7 p.m. Thurs., noon–5 p.m. Sun., $10 adults, $5 children and seniors, children under 12 free) is located on the campus of the University of Miami
The Lowe Art Museum houses a surprisingly large and diverse permanent collection of more than 15,000 works ranging from Greco-Roman antiquities and classical European art to impressive photography exhibits and a range of well-curated “international” exhibits focusing on African, Asian, Latin American, and South Pacific art.
Although the exhibit space isn’t quite as large as some other Florida museums, the well-organized museum has considerable depth, seeming to prefer to expend its energies on procurement and organization rather than dedicating hundreds of square feet to single pieces of art.
