Sun N Fun Lagoon

Few county governments have the fiscal means to construct a water park for their residents, but the Sun N Fun Lagoon (15000 Livingston Rd., 239/252-4021, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, open later Fri., summer; 10 a.m.–5 p.m. weekends the rest of the year, $12 visitors 48 inches and taller, $5.50 under 48 inches tall) is evidence of Collier County’s once-vibrant tax base.

Although the foreclosure crisis may have hit this part of Florida particularly hard, the water park opened in 2006 in North Collier Regional Park when the area was exploding with real estate development and the attendant property-tax revenue.

Kids will doubtlessly enjoy the four pools, five waterslides, and various other soaking attractions, while adults may just shake their heads in wonder at the government largesse. The nonwet parts of North Collier Regional Park include soccer fields, a large playground area, and a fitness complex.
