If the baroque decor of the sumptuous dining room at Christini’s (7600 Dr. Philips Blvd., 407/345-8770, 6 p.m.–midnight daily, main courses from $30) doesn’t clue you in that you’re in for some old-school fine dining, then perhaps the strolling musicians or the gift of a red rose to lady diners should do the trick. Owner Chris Christini prides himself on the “classical” atmosphere of his restaurant; unfortunately, his kitchen is seldom bothered to learn new tricks.

Heavily sauced “gourmet” pasta and meat dishes barely surpass the quality delivered in family-style chains like Buca di Beppo. Charm and ambiance can take you a long way, but at the prices charged at Christini’s, one would expect far better food.

For something a little more relaxed, the best pizza in the area is Flippers Pizzeria (7480 Universal Blvd., 407/351-5643, 11 a.m.–midnight or later daily). With six theme-park area locations, you’ll undoubtedly be able to get one of their fantastic pies to your hotel room door.
