Outside the park, Allen’s Guided Tours (Jacob Lake, 435/644-8150 or 435/689-1370, $15–75) offers horseback trips in Kaibab National Forest. A 1–2-hour trip over gentle forest terrain to a rim overlook is suitable for children. Tours leave several times a day, and no reservations are needed. Longer horseback trips along the Arizona Trail must be booked at least a day in advance and must include four or more people.
Private stock (horses, mules, burros, or donkeys) are allowed on certain trails, including North Kaibab Trail, Uncle Jim Trail, and Tiyo Point. Overnight trips require a backcountry permit. Grazing is not allowed within the park, so riders must bring feed for their stock. Call 928/638-7809 for more information about stock use in the park. Neighboring Kaibab National Forest (928/643-7298 or 928/643-7395) offers additional trail-riding opportunities for equestrians.
