Yaki Point

Yaki Point, about a mile past the turnoff on Desert View Drive, is accessible only by shuttle or tour bus. Because of this, many people often forgo visiting one of the most beautiful overlooks on the South Rim.

Though Hopi and Mohave Points get raves for sunset and sunrise photo opportunities, many prefer Yaki Point. If you’re a photographer, you’ll appreciate the gnarled piñon pines that lend foreground and framing to canyon scenes. Below, reddish-orange Cedar Ridge rises toward O’Neill Butte.

Look closely and you’ll see the South Kaibab Trail stretching across Cedar Ridge before making steep switchbacks below Skeleton Point. The trail starts 0.5 miles south of the rim.
