The dining room at the upscale Pensión Bonifaz (4a Calle 10-50 Zona 1, tel. 7765-1111, all meals daily) is a good place for a splurge with a variety of Guatemalan and international dishes served in a classy atmosphere frequented by the city’s elite.
Royal Paris (14 Avenida “A” 3-06 Zona 1, tel. 7761-1942, noon–11 p.m. Tues.–Sun., 6–11 p.m. Mon., $5–15) is a very popular, highly authentic French bistro with dishes that include crepes, baked camembert, and onion soup, as well as meat, chicken, fish, and pasta that you can enjoy accompanied by excellent wines. There’s live music on Friday and Saturday nights and French or Italian movies are shown on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
