Morazán

Morazán, a dusty town of 8,500 set two kilometers off the Yoro highway, is 45 kilometers from Santa Rita in the middle of the Valle de Cataguana, below the Sierra de Pijol. Morazán makes a good base for visiting Pico Pijol National Park, as it’s the closest town with lodging and supplies.

Located a kilometer or so off the highway, Morazán is strung along a bumpy east-west dirt road, with a DIPPSA gas station in the middle to serve as a reference point.

There are one or two small hotels, comedores, and a Hondutel office. There is also a local COHDEFOR office, one block uphill from the gas station, then one block to the left, with some limited information on Pico Pijol (on the whole the office is not geared for prospective campers and hikers, but is your best bet for help in finding a guide).

Campers will find several stores in town offering the usual assortment of packaged foods, while a good selection of fruits and vegetables can be found in the many stands lining the main street.
