Near the Airport

The only airport hotel we can really recommend, and do wholeheartedly, is the Banana Inn (tel. 504/668-2501, US$64 s, US$81 d), located less than 10 minutes from the airport in the town of La Lima. Rooms in this former bananero home are tastefully decorated, with dark wood furniture and carpeting.

The 16 guest rooms often fill with airline crews, so book ahead, although a hotel expansion is in the works. A taxi here from the airport should be about $8, and the hotel will arrange one for you upon request.

Getting to Banana Inn

If you’ve rented a car at the airport, to get to Banana Inn take a left onto the La Lima–San Pedro Sula highway, and take the La Lima turnoff after another minute or two. The road takes you straight to the central park, at the end of which you take a right (the park stays on your right when you turn).

Follow this road over a bridge, around a curve to the left, and through a stoplight. Just after the stoplight, you’ll see the entrance to Banana Inn on the left.
