Metromedia (Edificio Casa Real, Av. San Carlos, tel. 504/221-0770 or 504/221-0771, 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Mon.–Sat., noon–5 p.m. Sun.), near the U.S. Embassy, sells a slew of English-language magazines, newspapers, novels, and even this illustrious travel guide. It has branches in the Mall Multiplaza (tel. 504/232-1294) and in the airport (tel. 504/234-5128). There is an Espresso Americano in the main branch if you want to sit and flip through magazines. It also rents movies.
About the best Spanish-language bookstore in Honduras is Librería Guaymuras (tel. 504/237-5433, 8:30 a.m.–noon and 1–6 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 8:30 a.m.–noon Sat.) on Avenida Cervantes, which stocks an extensive collection of novels, poetry, and books on Honduran and Central American history, society, and politics. Look for works by Roberto Quesada, Dario Gonzalez, Ramón Amaya Amador, and Rocío Tábora, for a few interesting reads.
