See the city through green-tinted glasses during the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a miles-long display that remains one of Kansas City’s favorite traditions. The March 17 parade dates back to the late 1800s, when processions of “great pomp and circumstance” marched through city streets, according to the parade committee.
After a hiatus in the mid-1900s, the parade made a triumphant return in 1974, and since then the St. Patrick’s Day Parade has grown to include nearly 4,000 participants and, most recently, huge character balloons similar to those in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
