Trip Ideas
If you decide to extend your Lawrence day trip into a weekend excursion, severally locally owned hotels await that add additional local flavor to your trip.
Book a room at the historic
Eldridge Hotel (701 Massachusetts St., 800/527-0909, www.eldridgehotel.com, $145–159), a stately hotel that still stands despite being burned and raided several times during the town’s early (and turbulent) history. Spacious suites are a quietly modern contrast to the hotel’s carefully preserved lobby, and an on-site restaurant and bar are great places to unwind if you opt to stay in.
The Halcyon House Bed and Breakfast (1000 Ohio St., 785/841-0314, www.thehalcyonhouse.com, $55–99) features nine distinct rooms, including the luxurious master suite and Cozy Nooks and Crannies room, and homemade breakfasts. Despite the bed-and-breakfast’s 100-year-old setting, it’s fully equipped with a fax machine, high-speed Internet, and voicemail.
