Named for the home state of the abolitionists who founded Lawrence, Massachusetts Street (U.S. 40 to 14th Street) is the colorful, vibrant core of downtown Lawrence and the city’s first thoroughfare. Peppered with boutiques, national chain stores, restaurants, galleries, bars, coffee shops, and more, Mass Street is the place to soak up Lawrence culture and a taste of college life.

The lengthy boulevard is also home to historic sites like the gracious Eldridge Hotel and the aptly named Free State Brewery, as well as favorite annual events like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade (Mar. 17) and Sidewalk Sales (mid-July).
