Stepping into the Rocheport General Store (202 Central St., 573/698-2282, www.rocheportgeneralstore.com, 7 a.m.–10 p.m. Wed.–Sat., 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Sun.) is as close to getting in a time machine as you can get. Owners Dan and Sherrie Ingram remain committed to preserving the store’s history and offer a variety of nostalgic goods, including old-fashioned candy and gifts that make you yearn for days gone by.
A favorite town gathering place, the Rocheport General Store also serves meals and welcomes special events like live music performances, as well as town-wide events like the September Wine Stroll.
Pull up a chair to one of the tables and test your skill at one of the store’s board games. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, challenge a local to a match and you may end up learning about Rocheport from a first-hand source.
