NASCAR came speeding through Kansas City in 2001 with the completion of Kansas Speedway, a 1.5-mile tri-oval track that hosts the NEXTEL Cup Series, IndyCar Series, the NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series, and ARCA’s RE/MAX Series.
Speedway statistics indicate that most season ticket–holders come from a six-state region. The track is one of several projects that fueled a development boom in western Wyandotte County.
If you’re planning to stay in this part of the city, check the NASCAR schedule before you go; hotels fill up quickly for races and heavy traffic makes navigation difficult on the highways surrounding the speedway.
