While there are plenty of chain hotels from which to choose, the area also has some smaller, more interesting lodgings. Curley’s Paradise Motel (M-123 at Whitefish Point, 906/492-3445, $49–129 d) has nice standard rooms. Ask about their cottages and home rentals.
To the south, you’ll find the Evening Star Motel (7475 M-123, Newberry, 906/293-8342, www.theeveningstarmotel.com, $49–89 d), which boasts 40 clean rooms, some with kitchenettes. The property also has an indoor heated pool, so bring your swimsuit.
