Brockway Mountain Drive

Dubbed “the most beautiful road in Michigan,” this 10-mile Brockway Mountain Drive traces the spine of a high ridge between Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor. Rising 735 feet above Lake Superior, it is the highest paved road between the Rockies and Allegheny Mountains. A parking area midway allows you to stop and soak in the panorama of Lake Superior and the rolling forests of the Keweenaw, an incredible vista no matter how many times you’ve seen it.

Watch for ravens, bald eagles, and peregrine falcons—which sometimes soar below you. Traveling west to east, the end of the drive is marked by a picture-postcard shot of Copper Harbor, tucked between Lake Superior and Lake Fanny Hooe.

From this drive, you might catch a glimpse of the 1871 Eagle Harbor Light, now site of a maritime museum (10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily mid-June–early Oct., $4 adults, children free), operated by the Keweenaw County Historical Society.
