Agnes S. Andreae Nature Preserve

The swift and turbulent Pigeon River, designated by the state as a natural river, is the highlight of the Agnes S. Andreae Nature Preserve. Located in Indian River, the beautifully secluded 27-acre preserve includes 2,000 feet of Pigeon River frontage. On the river’s west side, a lowland stand of cedar bordering the riverbank rises to high bluffs covered with conifers and dense hardwoods.

There are no designated trails, but hikers and cross-country skiers find well-worn tracks to follow and other trails that border the river. Like many other tracts in this undeveloped part of the state, the preserve is owned by the Little Traverse Conservancy.
