Nancy’s Pasty Shop (2810 Pine, 406/782-7410) can give you a taste of Butte’s culinary gem ($5).

Joe’s Pasty Shop (1641 Grand, 406/723-9071) is another favorite for pasties.

Park Street Pasties (800 W. Park St., 406/782-6400) is a newcomer, creating what may be a little pasty war.

Gamer’s Café (15 W. Park, 406/723-5453, 7 a.m.–2 p.m. Mon.–Sat., $2–7), a Butte favorite for hearty meals for more than a century, also serves pasties.

To start the morning in Butte, swing up to the Great Harvest Bread Company (1803 Harrison Ave., 406/723-4988, 6 a.m.–6 p.m., $4–7) for muffins or great lunchtime sandwiches.

Broadway Cafe (302 E. Broadway, 406/ 723-8711, 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 5–11 p.m. Sat., $6–16), housed in a historic building, is Butte’s hippest place for espresso, microbrews and wine, or pizza and live music. Another comfortable place to hang out is the sweet and earnest Hummingbird Cafe (605 W. Park, 406/723-2044, 7:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Tues.–Fri., 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Sat., $6–7), which uses organic ingredients when possible in its smoothies, juices, soups, and sandwiches.

The artsy Venus Rising Cafe (124 S. Main St., 406/491-4476, 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 8 a.m.–2 p.m. Sat.–Sun., lunch $4–5) is a coffee shop with a few wraps and sandwiches; it’s sometimes open late on Friday nights for music.
