The Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site (316 Main St., 406/846-3388, www.nps.gov/grko, 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m. daily May 1–Oct. 1, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. the rest of the year, free), the home and outbuildings of Montana’s first ranch, provides a fascinating glimpse into the real life of cowboys and ranchers in the early days of Montana. The ranch is maintained as a working ranch; the house is open for guided tours only, and no more than 12 people may tour at once. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Wagon tours ($5 per person, $15 family) are offered hourly Thursday through Monday from mid-June through Labor Day.
