Horseback Riding and Cattle Drives
Trip Ideas
Resorts and guest ranches all generally offer horseback riding. Guided trail rides are the norm, although longer pack trips into the mountains are also scheduled. Cattle drives remain popular, with more than a dozen Montana ranches offering guests the chance to trail cattle from pasture to pasture or ranch to town. These trips usually involve several days of horseback riding, camping out on the prairie, and eating meals from chuck wagons.
Again, the Montana Outfitters and Guides Association (406/449-3578, www.montanaoutfitters.org) is a good place to start. A list of guest and dude ranches, as well as wagon train and cattle drive outfitters, is included in Travel Montana’s Travel Planner.
