Hunting
Trip Ideas
Hunters flock to Montana in the fall for elk, pronghorn, pheasants, deer, bear, and the occasional mountain lion or bighorn sheep. To hunt for certain animals—including moose, mountain sheep, and mountain goat—hunters need to enter special drawings. Nonresidents also need permits to hunt for antelope. For more information, contact Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks (406/444-2535, http://fwp.mt.gov). If you’d like to enlist the aid of a hunting guide, check the website for recommendations on established outfitters, or contact the Montana Guides and Outfitters Association (406/449-3578, www.montanaoutfitters.org) for a list of licensed outfitters.
