Commercial Van Tours

The park’s 1930s-era red rolltop buses, operated by GPI, take visitors on tours of the park with stops at all of Glacier’s lodges and inns. In nice weather the canvas tops roll back to create a sort of convertible. A variety of tours are offered (406/892-2525, www.glacierparkinc.com, $65 for an 8-hour tour). These buses are favorites of many longtime parkgoers; after several years of being out of service for repairs, the fleet is up and running again.

Glacier Park Inc. also runs van shuttles connecting the St. Mary Visitor Center (and the free Going-to-the-Sun Road shuttle) with Many Glacier, Two Medicine, East Glacier, and Waterton Lakes National Park. These are not free—it’s $8 from Many Glacier to St. Mary.

From East Glacier, Sun Tours (406/226-9220 or 800/786-9220, www.glaciersuntours.com) offers interpretive tours of the park from a Native American perspective. Tours highlight Blackfeet culture and history and how that culture and history relate to the park’s natural features.
