Most accommodations in Cooke City are older serviceable motels and cabins; they’re neither fancy nor expensive.

For a budget place, the High Country Motel (406/838-2272, www.cookecityhighcountry.com, year-round, $55–85) is very nice, with both motel rooms and cabins, including a few with kitchens.

The Alpine Motel (406/838-2262, www.cookecityalpine.com, year-round, $75), also has well-kept rooms and a few suites.

Extended families and other groups should inquire about renting cabins at Antler’s Lodge (406/838-2432 or 866/738-2432, www.cookecityantlerslodge.com, $75–135).

Elk Horn Lodge (406/838-2332), right along the main drag of Highway 212, also has both cute kitchenette cabins ($99) and motel rooms ($84).

Just east of town, Big Moose Resort (406/838-2393, www.bigmooseresort.com, $75–90) is the tiniest touch fancier and well off the main drag.

Down the road in Silver Gate, Grizzly Lodge (406/838-2219, www.yellowstonelodges.com, $50–75) has basic, but OK, cabin-style rooms right near Soda Butte Creek.

The other lodgings in Silver Gate are all owned by a group of people who are working to give this tiny town some vitality without destroying its woodsy laid-back beauty. Pine Edge Cabins (406/838-2371, www.pineedgecabins.com, $89–140) are open all year. The charming 1930s-era Silver Gate Cabins (406/838-2371, www.silver-gate-cabins.com, $72–150) all have kitchens; there are also some motel rooms here.

The only real deviation from the small motel and cabin format in the area is the Super 8 (406/838-2070, $85) in Cooke City. If you want to stay someplace a little more modern, this is it.
