There’s very little that even jaded shoppers can’t find to buy in New England, thanks to the proliferation of designer boutiques and department stores in the cities (particularly Boston, Providence, and Portland) and galleries and independent stores selling artists’ wares and crafts all over the six states. Handmade pottery and blown glass, for instance, are found throughout Vermont and Maine; wood-carving experts are plentiful in New Hampshire.
Designer outlets offering significant discounts on brand names are also a popular draw, and many have seen resort towns, hotels, and other attractions sprout up around them. The biggies are in Wrentham, Massachusetts; Manchester, Vermont; North Conway, New Hampshire; and Kittery and Freeport, Maine.
