Danbury’s old train station is so picturesque, it was used by Alfred Hitchcock as a setting in his movie Strangers on a Train. The Danbury Railway Museum (120 White St., 203/778-8337, www.danbury.org/drm, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Wed.–Sat., noon–4 p.m. Sun. early Sept.–late May.; 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat. and noon–5 p.m. Sun. late May–early Sept., $6 adults, $5 seniors, $4 children 3–12, free children under 3, additional charge for train ride) is now filled with collections of model trains and railroad memorabilia from all over Connecticut.

Out back the rail yard is a wonderland for youngsters, chock-full of locomotives, box cars, and cabooses in an ever-expanding collection of over 60 railroad cars.
