Covered Bridges

The Cornwall area is home to two of the three covered bridges left in the state (and the only two that are still operating). One of the most-celebrated covered bridges in all of New England, the West Cornwall Covered Bridge carries Route 7 across the Housatonic Bridge. At 172 feet, it’s one of the longer bridges in the region—and also one of the prettiest, painted barn-red and supported by a stone center post over the powerful, rushing waters of the Housatonic.

The smaller Bull’s Bridge crosses the Housatonic at Bull’s Bridge Road, named for a pair of brothers who once had an iron works here. The 110-foot span has a weathered wood exterior.
