Grindle Point Lighthouse

The blocky Grindle Point Lighthouse (207/734-2253, www.lighthouse.cc/grindle) greets visitors coming into the harbor aboard the ferry. Built in 1875, the 39-foot tower is unusual for being constructed in the square Pacific West Coast style, instead of the round style common to the East Coast.

Sailors’ Memorial Museum

Next door in the “one-and-a-half story” keeper’s house, the Sailors’ Memorial Museum (9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Tues.–Sun. late June–early Sept., free) displays paintings of old sailing captains, model ships, and work by the local “artist of the week.”
