Without a local theater or bar scene, evenings in York are generally made for relaxing at home or the occasional beach party. One exception is Talpey’s Tavern (Rte. 1, Cape Neddick, 207/351-1145), where locals hang out, share stories about the day, and otherwise kill time around the fireplace over brews.
Every October, York throws a month-long Harvestfest (207/363-4422, www.gatewaytomaine.org). For visitors that means lots of food festivals (including more than one taste-off), sidewalk sales, crafts fairs, and antique car shows.
