As a city that has always prided itself on culture, Boston rarely lacks for interesting arts and entertainment offerings. Performances range from meticulous renderings of chamber music to offbeat theater productions in experimental studios. Both major papers, the Boston Globe and Boston Herald, run comprehensive arts listings on Thursdays and Fridays, while the Globe also provides a roundup of events in its daily “Go!” section.
A more alternative take on the week’s events, including previews for upcoming rock shows, can be found in the weekly newspapers The Boston Phoenix and The Weekly Dig.
For tickets to theater performances, a great resource is BosTix (617/262-8632, www.bostix.org), which offers half-price tickets the day of the show. Booths are located in Quincy Marketplace (10 a.m.–6 p.m. Tues.–Sat., 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Sun.) and Copley Square (10 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Sun.) and only accept cash.
