If you couldn’t get into the game at the Garden, or if you’re just a multitasker, you’ll enjoy the Sports Grille Boston (132 Canal St., 617/367-9302, 5 p.m.–1 a.m. Mon.–Sat.; 4 p.m.–11 p.m. Sun.,), which has 140 TVs, all tuned to one thing: sports. The bar’s mammoth interior has a bit of a soulless feeling, offset slightly by the authentic memorabilia of Boston sports legends on the walls.
As an antidote to all those plastic Paddy pubs that serve beer green, the Irish pub McGann’s (197 Portland St., 617/227-4059, 11 a.m.–1 a.m. daily) is the real thing, with a decor straight from County Clare, and the likes of Belhaven and Tetley’s on tap. Sinead O’Connor once even played a (very) intimate show on stage here.
The industrial decor and smell of roasted malts at Boston Beer Works (112 Canal St., 617/896-2337, 11 a.m.–1 a.m. Mon.–Sat.; 12 p.m.–11 p.m. Sun., www.beerworks.net) harken back to the days when brewpubs were king. If the fad has paled, the beer at least hasn’t—brews like Boston Red and Back Bay IPA hit the spot, while TVs show all the action at the arena next door.
