Biking

A bike path runs alongside Beach Road from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown, so you can focus on the beautiful view, not oncoming traffic. Winds off of the waves can sometimes make for slow going, however.

An easier ride is to take the ferry from Edgartown to the small island of Chappaquiddick, and bike the two miles through pitch pines and protected dunes to Wasque Reservation. The beach at the end is ideal for sunbathing.

More challenging is the backcountry route from Vineyard Haven to Aquinnah. The hilly 20-mile round-trip offers good exercise and amazingly varied scenery. After lunch in Menemsha, you can cheat the last two miles with a bike ferry to Aquinnah.
