The city that never sleeps it’s not, but for a town that until only a decade ago was always shuttered by early evening, Nantucket has a respectable number of nightlife options. The Chicken Box (16 Dave St., 508/228-9717, www.thechickenbox.com)—named such because it’s housed in what was once a fried-chicken stand—is the area nightclub, with cover and tribute bands and DJs several nights a week.

Standouts among the town’s cluster of bars and pubs are The Ropewalk (1 Straight Wharf, 508/228-8886, www.theropewalk.com), which has a salty-aired, wharfside setting to recommend it; The Boarding House (12 Federal St., 508/228-9622, www.boardinghouse-pearl.com), an upscale magnet for the perkiest bar-hoppers in the area; and Cambridge Street Victuals (12 Cambridge St., 508/228-7109, www.cambridgestreetnantucket.com), probably the coolest spot for a cocktail in town, and usually the least crowded.
