Autumn puts Plymouth in its element, with foliage hitting its colorful peak, cranberry bogs alight with crimson berries, and Thanksgiving bringing a spotlight to the area. Halloween Lantern Tours hit in late October at Plimoth Plantation, offering guided nighttime walking tours of the historic village by punched-tin lanterns.
Come November, there are few more appropriate places to be than Plymouth, site of the first Thanksgiving. The town pulls out all the stops, throwing America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration (508/746-1818, www.usathanksgiving.com) with a giant parade, marching bands, and floats galore down its center street; the Plantation rolls out scores of 17th-century family activities—from games and hands-on crafts to a full Victorian Thanksgiving Dinner.
