An intimate bistro located on Main Street, Once Upon A Table (36 Main St., 413/298-3870, www.onceuponatablebistro.com, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and 5–8:30 p.m. daily, $18–27) puts a creative American twist on continental cuisine—potpie of escargot, anyone? The chef-owned restaurant has an unpretentious but romantic atmosphere.
A rarity in the country, authentic Vietnamese cuisine is served up at Truc Orient Express (3 Harris St., W. Stockbridge, 413/232-4204, 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, $11–19), a white-tablecloth eatery originally started by two Vietnamese refugees in the 1970s. The pho is particularly good, as are salads, spring rolls, and seafood dishes.
Meat and potatoes figure heavily on the menu at The Red Lion Inn (30 Main St., 413/298-5545, 7:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m. daily, $23–34), which caters to leaf-peepers and bus tours with a heavy menu of New England classics served in a formal dining room.
