Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad
Part of the original Boston & Maine Railroad that used to bring tourists to the region has been preserved and turned into the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad (603/745-2135, www.hoborr.com, 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. daily mid-June–Aug.; weekends only late May–mid-June and Sept.–mid-Oct., $14 adults, $11 children 3–11, free children under 3). It now runs one- and two-hour rides along the shore between Meredith and Weirs Beach, including a bridge over a slice of the lake itself. There’s a $2 surcharge to ride in Leo’s Party Caboose.
Funspot
If you’re at a loss for how to entertain the whole family, Funspot (Rte. 3, Weirs Beach, 603/366-4377, www.funspotnh.com, 9 a.m.–11 p.m. Sun.–Fri., 9 a.m.–midnight Sat., mid-June–early Sept.; 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Sun.–Thurs. and 10 a.m.–11 p.m. Fri., 9 a.m.–midnight Sat. early Sept.–mid-June) will probably do the trick. Proudly proclaiming itself the “second-largest arcade in the country,” it includes thousands of square feet of arcade games, bowling, mini-golf, and even bingo.
Meredith Harley Davidson
It wouldn’t be New Hampshire without motorcycles—and the king of the hog dealers is Meredith Harley Davidson (239 Daniel Webster Hwy., Meredith, 603/279-4526, www.meredith-hd.com, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon. and Thu.; 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Fri.; 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Sat.; 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Sun.; closed Tue. & Wed.), a giant showroom for Harley and Buell bikes, and the center of the action during Laconia’s annual Motor- cycle Week.
