Take your pick among three rooms (or a lounge) at The Homestead Restaurant (1567 Summer St./Rte. 104, Bristol, 603/744-2022, www.homesteadnh.com, 4:30 p.m.–10 p.m. nightly except Mon. from mid-Oct.–late May; 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Sun., $16–24), a casual and kid-friendly eatery in a country setting. Opt for the huge baked-potato skins, seafood fettuccine, or bourbon-laced tenderloin tips. On Sundays, come for the live jazz brunch.
Wednesdays through Sundays, the riverside Presidential Grille (26 Central Sq., Bristol, 603/744-6363, $12–20) serves classic surf ’n’ turf dishes—clam chowder, baby back ribs, and fried scallops. Be sure to save room for the caramel pecan pie.
The food’s all well and good at Wild Hare Tavern (1030 Mayhew Turnpike, Bridgewater, 603/744-9111, www.newfoundlake.com, $13–25)—the likes of seared day boat scallops and grilled rosemary chicken, but it’s the view that takes the cake: Incredible sunsets take place over the lake next door, and the tavern’s dining room and outdoor verandah offer front-and-center vantage points.
