A mainstay on the summer stock circuit since 1933, the New London Barn Playhouse (84 Main St./Rte. 114, New London, 603/526-6710, www.nlbarn.org) presents feel-good musicals and children’s plays in a converted barn. Past graduates of the theater’s apprentice program include Hollywood actors Laura Linney and Taye Diggs.
The Fells’ natural beauty is augmented by man-made creativity at the annual Artists Weekend at the Fells (603/763-4789, www.thefells.org, July), a juried art show featuring regional artists painting the historic gardens; Celtic musicians and a “wet paint” sale add to the mix.
Sunapee takes center stage at the Love Your Lakes Day (603/763-2210, www.lakesunapee.org, Aug.), which features a parade and boat show in Sunapee Harbor.
There might not be too many clams in the lake, but that doesn’t stop area residents from celebrating Chowderfest (877/526-6575, www.lakesunapeenh.org, Oct.), a high-stakes chowder competition and music fest. Guests are invited to try samples and vote for their own favorite.
