Anheuser-Busch Brewery
The Anheuser-Busch Brewery (221 Daniel Webster Hwy., Merrimack, 603/595-1202, www.budweisertours.com, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Thurs.–Mon. Jan.–Apr.; 10 a.m.–4 p.m. daily May and Sept.–Dec.; 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m. daily June–Aug., free) in Merrimack is the smallest of the beer conglomerate’s five national breweries. In addition to demonstrations of the brewing process (with free samples!), the brewery has a faux-Bavarian hamlet that serves as a paddock for some of Budweiser’s famous Clydesdale horses.
Abbot-Spalding House Museum
Nashua’s history as a mill town is on display at the Abbot-Spalding House Museum (1 Nashville St., Nashua, 603/883-0015, www.nashuahistoricalsociety.org, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Tues.–Thurs. Mar.–late Nov., free), an 1860 Federal Revival mansion once owned by prosperous cotton-mill owner Daniel Abbot, who is known as the “father of Nashua.” The house is full of antiques and household furnishings from the Victorian era to the present.
Frye’s Measure Mill
To see a modern mill up close, visit Frye’s Measure Mill (12 Frye Mill Rd., Wilton, 603/654-6581, www.fryesmeasuremill.com, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tues.–Sat.; noon–5 p.m. Sun.; until 4 p.m. Tues.–Sun. in winter, contact office for tour schedule, free), which has been churning out wooden “measures” (measuring cups) and Shaker boxes for more than 100 years. Tours are given of the manufacturing process, which is run entirely on water power.
