The coin-obsessed and curious alike will want to head for Littleton Coin Company (1309 Mt. Eustis Rd., Littleton, 800/645-3122, www.littletoncoin.com, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Mon.–Fri., tours Wed. and Fri. 1:30 p.m. Jul.–early Sept.). A nationally recognized leader in collecting, the shop is like a miniature museum.
Claiming to have the world’s greatest cheddar cheese, Harman’s Cheese & Country Store (1400 Rte. 117, Sugar Hill, 603/823-8000, www.harmanscheese.com, 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m. daily May–Oct.; 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Mon.–Sat. Nov.–Apr.) is most certainly worth a stop—even if its self-given title is debatable. Either way, the store is undeniably charming, housed in a red barn and stocked with homemade marmalades and jellies, crackers, maple sugar candy, and, of course, cheddar cheese.
Individually crafted and full of intricate wooden detail, the tables, chests, chairs, and beds at P. C. Anderson Handmade Furniture (253 Center District Rd., Sugar Hill, 603/823-5209, www.andersonfurniture.com, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily.) are the kind of investment pieces that last a lifetime.
